A Sunrise Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse Elopement
K and B’s journey to celebrate their marriage is truly special - a small, intimate celebration in Acadia National Park before they travel to the Philippines next year for a big wedding with friends and family.
This smaller celebration was all about them. And it started with a quiet, intimate sunrise together at Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse.
Like many elopement days, the plan evolved. We explored a few different location and timing options leading up to their day and ultimately settled on a sunrise visit to the lighthouse (just two days beforehand!). Sometimes the best plans aren't the ones made months in advance; instead they're the ones that leave room for flexibility and prioritize the experience you want to have together. Making sure your location and time of day will give you the experience you want is where I come in and location scout until we find the perfect mix - and oftentimes a sunrise elopement in Acadia National Park gives you the intimacy, specialness, and beauty you came here for.
As the sun rose over the rocky coastline, K and B shared coffee on the rocks and soaked in the quietness of the morning. No timelines to rush through. No guests waiting for the next event. Just a chance to slow down, breathe, and spend intentional time together before the celebrations ahead.
Later that day, they would exchange vows and celebrate their marriage in Bar Harbor. But this sunrise experience was a meaningful start to their Acadia wedding day - a quiet moment to connect with each other and get grounded in this beautiful corner of Acadia before the day unfolded.
One of my favorite things about incorporating an activity or experience into an elopement day is that it creates space for moments like these. The photos become more than portraits; they become memories of how the day actually felt. And for K and B, that feeling was peaceful, joyful, and completely them.
Sunrise elopements create space to slow down. There’s no rushing from one event to the next, no pressure to entertain guests, and no distractions competing for your attention. You have the opportunity to be fully present with each other and the commitment you're making.
